Some questions to ask yourself while viewing the visualization, to help you look closely for significant details:

  1. What direction is the Earth's axis pointing at various times throughout the year? How does the relationship between the Earth's axial tilt and the position of the Sun vary throughout the year?
  2. Click on the "Summer solstice" button. Locate Earth's north polar ice cap on the "Earth close-up" and "View from Sun" images. How many hours of daylight per day fall on the arctic regions near the north pole in June? How about the south polar regions around Antarctica? Next, click on the "Winter solstice" button. How long are the days near each of the poles in December?
  3. Where on Earth would a person see the Sun directly overhead at each of the solstices and equinoxes?
